Champion de Crespigny, Sir Claude, Bart.

Was born in 1847, and served in the Royal Navy, the 60th Rifles, Militia Artillery and Yeomanry. He was War Correspondent up the Nile in 1889, a Volunteer in South Africa in 1900, and in East Africa in 1905. Commenced yachting before joining the Royal Navy, and has kept it up at intervals all his life in many parts of the world, especially with Rob Roys and small open or half-decked boats, in one of which he crossed the Channel in half a gale.
