Was born in 1853, and educated at Harrow. He was Captain in the 3rd Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, and is now a member of the Royal Scottish Archers, the King’s Bodyguard for Scotland.

He is keenly inter­ested in yachting, and is a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron and the Yacht Racing Association. He was owner of the Rozel yawl, 41 tons, built by Stow of Shoreham in 1894. He also owned the following: Endrick, 56-footer ; Strathendrick, 30-footer, the two best boats in the class in the Solent, and also the Endrick, 2 tons, which he raced in France with great success.
